“Today, in our field, there is so much talent and recognition that we are reaching a saturation point. An artist should no longer strive only for breathtaking craftsmanship; he should, instead, try to help us live better, either by dressing the wounds that are constantly being opened by society, or by offering solutions to get us out of the mess we’re in…But it’s going to be difficult and we have a lot of work to do.” - Jean 'Moebius' Giraud

THE MORNING AFTER?_update

[12 x 9" - blue pencil, brush & technical pen on bristol board]

It could be argued that if I don't like it, then I don't necessarily need to read it. That's very valid.

Ah. Fanfic porn. I love you.

PS - I think I did it wrong; I actually showed her face in the first panel instead of just... you know... not.

FAIRY QUEST_update

[14 x 17" - blue pencil, brush & technical pen on 300lb bristol board]

When HUMBERTO RAMOS (a luminary artist, illustrator of the highest kind) asks you to contribute to his upcoming, self-published book called 'FAIRY QUEST', you not only say 'Yes!', you try to not look foolish next to all the other people he's asked to be in the book with you. Couple that with the fact that Humberto has drawn some of his best sequential work ever, and it's not surprising that it turned out to be a pretty nerve-wracking experience for me.

Anyway, here was my offering.

I am proud and honored to be part of of the book and I will never be able to thank Humberto for thinking of me and including me in his most recent, exciting venture. I am so very lucky.

If you are interested in the book - I understand that it's in very high demand and in very short supply - you can order a copy for yourself by writing to this e-mail address: culturevandal@hotmail.com.

Have a great week, all.

"When Captain America throws his mighty shield, all those who chose to oppose his shield must yield.

If he’s led to a fight and a duel is due, then the red and white and the blue’ll come through

"Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size, catches thieves just like flies.
Look Out! Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong? Listen bud, he's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread? Take a look overhead
Hey, there! There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime.
Like a streak of light, he arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman, friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame, he's ignored. Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up, whenever there's a hang up,
You'll find the Spider man."

I've never played this game extensively.

Actually, my first thought was to type "I've never understood the appeal of this character."

Then I looked at the image again.

"..something, something...lamentation of their women."

PS - As a kid, I used to think he said 'lamination of their women' - which seemed more painful-er.

Some original images to be included as part of the rewards given to backers of the KICKSTARTER program for my forthcoming art book 'ENCORE'.

More to come later. Please stay tuned, and thank you for your continued patience.

PS - It's been brought to my attention that there are those who have asked about requesting specific character images for their reward. Sadly and respectfully, the answer must be "No." Honestly, it'll just be too difficult for me to provide that option for everyone. I am grateful for all the kind, generous and supportive patrons who have contributed to financing the production of the book. But as it is, this project is already a coordination challenge for me with all the new art I have to generate coupled my current workload and deadlines. And if I were too add trying to accommodate specific requested images... well, I hope you can sympathize with my situation.

So, the plan is to draw random images and distribute them just as randomly.

My sincerest thanks to all of you for your understanding and participation. I promise you that I will do my very best to give you something you can be proud of, and I swear I'll try to not draw a stinker.

Key word: Try.
