I'm going to be away for a bit. Don't worry; it's nothing serious - I'm just not going to be here, you know? I think people call it a 'vacation'. It's an interesting concept to me. Vacation... right.

Uhm... just in case, does anyone know how to say, "Please don't hurt me. Just take my money and don't sell me to pirates!" in French? Or how about in Italian? German? Okay, thanks.

"Dear Paris,

Hi! How are you? I'm doing fine, thanks. My summer is almost over and soon I will have to go back to school. I had a lot of fun during my vacation, but before the new school year starts, I will visit your country... I think. More on that later, but first I have some news!

My dear friend JASON SCHACHTER will be going there to visit you with a backpack full of my original work on his... uhm... back! Because it's a backpack! Duh! So if you ever wanted to buy and own an original drawing from me, you should write to Jason and ask him where he will be during the PARIS MANGA show on September 12-13, 2009. Please check the link for more show information. Neat-O!

I'm sad because I wish I could be there with him for the convention itself, but unfortunately I have other stuff that's gonna keep me away from there. I've never been to a convention in a different country before and I would like to see what it looks like! Is it exciting? Is it fun? I don't know! I've never been to one!

So until then, Jason (along with a folder full of my Wolverine drawings, and Captain America drawings, and Batman drawings, and Superman drawings) will go instead of me because he is handsome. And Paris? While you're at the convention, please say "Hello!" to my other handsome friends, STEPHANE ROUX and TIM SALE. They are both good people and they are also good drawers!

Okay, so you know how I said, "I think I will visit..." earlier in my letter? I said that because I am not sure I will be there at all! I know what you're thinking: "Oh, no!" But if I do end up there, I promise I will be going to the 'OUT OF PICTURE 2' EXHIBIT at the ARLUDIK GALLERY. I really do hope to meet some of you who visit my blog! Does it sound confusing to you yet? Good. I'm pretty confused too!

Anyway, it was nice talking to you, Paris. Thanks so much for reading. I hope you guys have a great new year in school and I hope you also had a wonderful summer!

ROGERS VS. RAND _commission

I swear - no adjustments via Photoshop; COPIC markers really do come out this vibrant.

And yes, I know that Iron Fist's power/flame hand is typically pink in hue, but Captain America is also supposed to be red white and blue. The color palette of things are completely malleable in my universe. I've learned to deal with it - and now, so must you.

Actually, I had enough trouble harmonizing the two characters who are, at their core, wearing primary colors on their outfits. I wasn't about to give myself the extra headache of trying to put pink in there too. Or maybe that's my excuse because I'm all thumbs when it comes to color? Yeah, okay - PINK SUCKS!

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. I've got to go back to work now.


Also,I forgot to mention this before, but I accidentally won an Eisner Award. Well, technically, COMIC BOOK TATTOO won an Eisner for Best Anthology. That's why I said 'accidentally'. Regardless, I'm honored and proud to be a part of the hard working, talented, and well-deserved group of writers and artists who were involved with the project. Thanks to RANTZ HOSELEY for letting me and Jonathan Tsuei participate in the anthology. And if you haven't yet, you should BUY yourself a copy and check out what the hubbub is all about.

THE DEFEOS & NINA_update

I don't have any new art because all the new art I'm doing lately is for people who will publish them later. And they typically get angry when I put them up here for others to see before they give me the high-sign. So, no new art.

Instead I will show you photos of what The DeFeos did with their purchase of my 'Fairest' and 'Red' original art work.

Basically, they took my images (along with their printed/colored counterparts) and classed it up by 1000%. I am so grateful for their support and for finding a place in their home for my work. They were nothing but kind and inviting to me when I first met them, and it warms my heart to think someone cares enough about my work that they'd mount it and place it behind glass like this. And if they just happen to be rummaging through my blog, let me say this: THANK YOU SO MUCH, JENI AND BEN! You guys are much too classy for words.

Anyway, so happy am I that it makes me think of NENA and her perennial hit "99 LUFTBALLONS". You should know the lyrics before you sing it, so I shall provide them for you now.
