“Today, in our field, there is so much talent and recognition that we are reaching a saturation point. An artist should no longer strive only for breathtaking craftsmanship; he should, instead, try to help us live better, either by dressing the wounds that are constantly being opened by society, or by offering solutions to get us out of the mess we’re in…But it’s going to be difficult and we have a lot of work to do.” - Jean 'Moebius' Giraud

ART BOMB_sketchcard

I feel terrible because work hasn't allowed me to put up much of anything here on my poor little blog, I'm just going to have to post a bunch of stuff now so that I'm set for the next few days. And yeah, I know I've posted some of these cards before - deal with it. it is to say, that I'm not posting as consistently, and this ought to make up for the next week or two when I'm anticipating not posting even more. I mean, that's 54 little cards - that should be good for...what?...3 weeks? Heh.

I also didn't have time to make the card line up all pretty-like, but I figured it's the images you cared about and not how perpendicular and parallel they all are to each other. These are in no particular order - just slapped onto the scanner and uploaded here. Oh, and there's two Dr. Dooms because...well, you can never get enough Doom.

BTW, thanks to all for the words of encouragement and support over the last blog entry about the forthcoming Iron Man mini-series. I certainly appreciate those who have posted...and the guys who are lurking as well. Sneaky little lurkers.

Have a great weekend.

Wow man these cards are the shit. I'm am bursting with anticipation about your Iron Man book. I haven't bought a single Marvel or DC book in over a year now, and I will be first in line for this.

I wish there were more guys like you putting it together man. Great Job!

These are looking beautiful. I'd love to be able to track one down but I know they're going to be hot. And by the way I can't wait to see your Iron Man book. I've always been a Marvel fan and the fact that you, one of my favorite artists, is doing a kick ass Iron Man project makes me giddy. Did I just say giddy. Anyways keep it up man. We're all here for ya.

I'm having a real love/hate relationship with you posting these cards.
On the one hand, I love getting to see them because I know if you didn't I'd probably never get to see all of this incredible artwork your doing of characters I'll probably never get to see you draw again.
On the other hand, I hate seeing how great they are because it's going to make me want to buy boxes and boxes of these cards trying to find some of your cards.
You can see my dilemma, right?
Really sorry I didn't get to meet you in San Diego, everytime I'd come by your booth I was told you'd be back in a little bit.
Oh, and your Iron Man book is going to be the first IM comic I've purchased since I was a little kid.

Hey Eric,
The cards look great!! I love the Medusa and Black Cat the best, but they are all really great pieces - I'll definitely try my luck with a few packs to see if I can't score one of these. Also, I'm really looking foward to the Iron Man book - the preview art you've posted so far is outstanding!

Your takes on all of the characters seems so fresh and awesome. It's like catching a cool breeze up the shorts on a hot day.

Particularly, Nova, Kraven, the Angel/Archangel combo, and Electro.

So awesome its like they are brand new.

Holy Crap! I love 'em all!!

Personal fave's Iron Fist b/c you can't go wrong w/ a guy punching through a brick wall. Classic!

And I like how you stayed away from all the usual suspects like Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, etc.

Really looking forward to the Iron Man comic! :D

Thanks for the link to Robocon! It's great to see a mix of the East and the West in one book. Wish I could get my hands on the Future Junction books ... Say, how do I go about friending Robocon on Myspace?

Dammit Eric! You pack enough energy and detail into every card, it looks like a full sized cover shrunk down!

Now all us other hacks are going to have to step it up!

Great work, bruddah!

just read the interview you did on comicartfans..
http://www.comicartfans.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3531

Along with Benoit Springer and Wendling you should also look at Mathieu Lauffray (Lauffray and Wendling worked together).

Springer's style (and rendering) gets much simpler over the course of the three volunteer volumes.. starts lush and becomes very scratchy.. still lovely though..

These cards are fan-flippin-tastic, to say the least!! You're an incredible talent Mr. Canete. Just keep on doing what you're doing.

I'd love to know what type of pen or brush you used to make these cards. They look fantastic. I'mm doing some cards for this years set and I'm using my regular inking brush but love the linework you achieved on your cards. Thats why I had to go back and look at teh cards you did for a little inspiration.
please let me know what type of pen you used for teh cards.
